"To Do" or not "To Do"

I have never been a fan of the "To Do" list, writing down all the tasks that need to be accomplished in the day.  I find that writing it all down on a piece of paper can make the day seem overwhelming and if you don't get through it, defeat is the emotion to follow.  Besides the emotions, I am the first person that will write the list and forget it at home or lose it all together.  Then I have wasted the fifteen minutes writing it and still am no further ahead.  I believe that there are different personality types that it works for and people like myself that it absolutely does not.  I have worked with people and have friends that write down everything that has to be done, every minute of their day but for me to look at that would make my head spin.  I do use my wonderful Blackberry to send myself a quick email note or set a appointment in my calendar to ensure I don't forget important details but I don't need to see everything that needs to be done in black and white.  I think it speaks volumes about a person how they organize their lives.  My life for me feels very organized, I seldom forget important details and you will not find a list in my home, other than a grocery list.  For the "list keepers" keep up the good work but for now I will keep my "to do's" in my head and leave the pen and paper for another day.  -Jacki

New Beginnings

Today is my son's first day of kindergarten.  It is officially the time that I have no children in my home for the day (well okay he only goes for an hour today but as of next Friday I have two full time students).  It is a little bit of a sad time, listening to my quiet home but on the same hand it is very exciting.  I can now put some focus on my career search.  I can spend the hours I need working on my portfolio and finding the right people to present it to.  It is this moment in my life that I will put my time and efforts into my passion and pursue a new path.  Isn't the unknown an exciting place?  A place so far out of comfort zones that they can't even be seen in the distance but really comfort zones are very uncomfortable for me.  The goal has been set, the time has come I can't wait to see what this journey holds but for now, my hour is up and I have to pick up my "almost" full time student.  Have a sunshiny day! -Jacki

Clarification

A few days ago I made the leap to post my blog to all of my facebook community.  The response had been humbling to say the least.  I have had comments, phone calls and text messages with the kindest words of encouragement.   I went from a hand full of page view to over a hundred in just a few days, much more than I ever expected, thank you to everyone that has stopped by.
After talking with a few people that have checked it out, I feel the need to make a clarification.  At this point my search for a career is a search for the perfect employer.  The position or company that I am looking for is either a corporation, a non profit organization or event planning company that I can plan special events and help network.   As much as I have loved running my own company for the past eight years, now is the time for me to work with someone else, have some new experiences and challenges.  If anyone hears of a job posting or knows someone in this field I would love for you to pass on my name or the information to me.  This is my intention, this is my goal and this is my journey.  Have a fantastic day! -Jacki

Going Public

I have made the announcement to a few people over the past couple of months that I would be starting a career search this fall.  I have thought about it, dreamed about it, created my approach and am very excited for the results to come.  It was easy telling people that I knew would support my decision, the people that I could guarantee would give me the support and feedback I have wanted to hear.  Today I have made the choice to tell everyone, by posting my blog on Facebook, a huge leap out of a comfort zone.  Comfort zones are limitations, limitations hold us back and prevent us from seeing opportunities so I enter today with my eyes open and comfort left behind.  Welcome Facebook friends, thank you for joining me on my journey. -Jacki

Tweet Tweet

After having a twitter account for the past few years I have taken for granted all of my fabulous followers and people I am following.  My Ktownlandscaper account has over 1500 people I follow and 1400 followers with new people every day.  My new account, that is designed to market myself and my journey for the search of the perfect career, has a whopping 4 followers, 2 of which are myself and my husband.  Now to give myself a little credit I did only start the account yesterday and these things take time.  I have come to love my little Twitter community and it is exciting to build it again, I'm just hoping it doesn't take me 3 years to get there.  If you haven't already please follow me @JackisJourney, I would love to hit 50 followers by the end of the week, help me meet my goal.  Have a wonderful sunshiny day! -Jacki

The beginning

Eight years ago I made the commitment to my family that I would work side by side with my husband to create and run a company together.  We now have a very reputable landscape construction company, managed to conquer the ups & downs and came out on top.  It has been journey that I wouldn't trade for the world.  I have learned a love for business and taken the opportunity to learn and grow with the company.
Today I start on a new path with a clear vision of how the future looks.  I have found a passion in planning special events and marketing business.  Volunteering has allowed me the chance to realize the skills I have and now I will be offering them to the world.  My creativity, focus and drive will make me a successful candidate for a position in this field and I am so excited to get started.  The intention of this blog is to portray my portfolio and start me on my quest for a career.  Thank you for stopping by, please come again. -Jacki
